After impressing fans around the world with blockbuster hits like Black Panther and Creed, director Ryan Coogler took a different path with his latest film, Sinners. This time, he mixed horror, vampires, and blues music into a dark and chilling story that has left fans asking one big question: Will there be a sequel to Sinners?
The film stars Michael B. Jordan and tells the story of twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, who run a lively juke joint in Mississippi. Everything changes when a group of vampires shows up and turns their world into chaos. The movie ends with a few key characters still alive, leaving just enough mystery to make fans hope for more. But is Sinners 2 really happening?
Is a Sinners Sequel Happening?
If you’re hoping for a sequel, you might want to lower your expectations—at least for now. In a recent interview with Ebony, Ryan Coogler was very clear about his plans. When asked about continuing the story, he simply said, “I never think about that.”
Coogler’s response may surprise some fans, especially those who remember his past work with huge franchises. After spending years building big cinematic worlds like the Marvel universe and the boxing drama Creed, it seems Coogler is ready for something different.
With Sinners, he wanted to make a film that felt complete on its own. Coogler explained, “I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal: your appetizers, starters, entrees, and desserts. I wanted all of it there. I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing.”
In other words, Sinners was meant to be a standalone story. Even though there are some loose ends and cliffhangers, Coogler didn’t create this movie with sequels in mind. He was focused on telling a fresh, original story—something personal and unique.
Does Sinners Have a Post-Credits Scene?
Yes, Sinners actually has two post-credits scenes, and both hint at possible future stories.
In the first scene, the movie jumps forward to the year 1992. We see a smoky blues club where an older Sammie—played by real-life blues legend Buddy Guy—is still playing music. Suddenly, Stack and Mary walk in. Shockingly, they look exactly the same as they did back in 1932. This suggests they are still alive—or rather, still undead.
The second post-credits scene is more emotional. It flashes back to a young Sammie singing “This Little Light of Mine,” just like in the film’s opening. It’s a quiet moment, but it adds depth to the story and hints at a bigger message behind all the horror and music.
So, What’s Next for Sinners?
Even though Ryan Coogler says he’s not planning a sequel, these post-credits scenes make it clear that there’s still more story to tell. Fans are already talking about what a sequel might look like—maybe a ‘90s vampire blues road movie, or a deeper dive into the world of Stack and Mary.
For now, though, Coogler is staying focused on original stories. That means Sinners 2 may not happen anytime soon—but never say never.
