Smita Patil is still remembered as one of the most talented and respected actresses in Indian cinema. Her powerful performances and strong screen presence made her a beloved star. But beyond her acting, Smita Patil’s professionalism and dedication to her work are truly inspiring. One such story from her life proves how committed she was to her craft — even during one of the most delicate times in her life.

While shooting for the 1987 Bollywood dance film Dance Dance, Smita Patil was pregnant. The film starred Mithun Chakraborty in the lead, and despite her pregnancy, Smita didn’t back away from her responsibilities. According to reports, she informed the cast and crew about her pregnancy but refused to take a break from work.

As per Bollywood Shaadis, Smita Patil was so professional that she continued to shoot for the movie even when she was expecting. She didn’t want her pregnancy to delay the film’s schedule. That kind of commitment is rare and shows how serious she was about her work.

One of the people from the film’s team shared a heartwarming memory about this. He said that Smita was ready to shoot a dance sequence, even though she was pregnant. She had suggested to director Babbar Subhash that they could focus on taking close-up shots of her, so the audience wouldn’t notice her baby bump. Smita also wore loose clothes during the shoot to hide her pregnancy.

The team agreed with her suggestion, and they went ahead with the shoot. The song “Super Dancer” was filmed during this time. The industry insider shared that Smita looked absolutely glowing during the shoot. He said her face showed the beauty and joy of motherhood. He also recalled how Smita would always greet people warmly, especially in Marathi. Jagdish Aurangabadkar, the film’s PRO (Public Relations Officer), was a close friend, and Smita never missed a chance to say hello to him on set.

Smita Patil’s personal life was as eventful as her professional one. She fell in love with actor Raj Babbar while working on the 1982 film Bheegi Palkein. Their relationship was controversial because Raj Babbar was already married to Nadira Babbar at the time. He eventually left Nadira to marry Smita.

In November 1986, Smita gave birth to their son, Prateik Babbar. Sadly, just 15 days after giving birth, she passed away due to complications related to childbirth. Her untimely death left a huge void in the film industry and in the hearts of her fans.

Even though she is no longer with us, Smita Patil’s legacy lives on. She was not just a great actress but also a brave woman who stood strong in every phase of life. Her work, especially in films like Namak Halal, Amrit, and Dance Dance, continues to inspire generations of actors and movie lovers.

Smita Patil will always be remembered — not just for her incredible talent, but also for the strength, courage, and love she brought to every role, even during her pregnancy. Her story is a beautiful reminder of how passion and dedication can leave a lasting mark on the world.
