Even though the last Harry Potter movie came out years ago, the magic is still very much alive—especially among the original cast. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter films, just revealed that the main cast still keeps in touch through a WhatsApp group chat. Yes, Harry, Ron, Hermione—and even Draco—are still connected like it’s their own digital Common Room.
While promoting the new Harry Potter store opening in Chicago, Felton shared this fun update with People magazine. “We’re all very close still,” he said. “We’re usually in four corners of the earth at the same time, so it’s hard to meet up. But Slytherins and Gryffindors are friendly.”
He also added that he had just filmed a short video of the store and sent it to the group. So, somewhere out there, Daniel Radcliffe might be reacting with a wand emoji, and Rupert Grint could be cracking a dad joke. It’s clear that their friendship has stayed strong, even after all these years.
From behind-the-scenes pranks to red carpet reunions, the bond between the original Harry Potter cast runs deep. Even though HBO is working on a new Harry Potter reboot with a fresh cast, Felton says it hasn’t caused any drama in the group chat. In fact, he’s excited to see the magic return for a new generation.
“I think we’re all excited to see the wizarding world continue,” he said. “I look forward to knocking on young Draco’s door and surprising him—or something like that.”
While Felton isn’t hoping for a big role in the new series, he would love to sneak into the background as an extra. “Definitely 100%. Not for advice,” he joked, “just to say enjoy it, and I look forward to meeting the young scallywag.”
In another interview with Jake’s Takes, Tom shared how happy he is about the reboot. He’s especially looking forward to meeting the actor who will play the younger version of Draco Malfoy. “It’s exciting, isn’t it?” he said. “There will be a trailer or dressing room with the name Draco Malfoy on it again. That’s a lovely thing.”
Felton’s attitude is all about support and good vibes. He’s not bitter or jealous—instead, he’s ready to cheer on the next generation of witches and wizards. And who knows? Maybe we’ll get the most magical photobomb in Hogwarts history if he shows up on set.
So even though the original cast may be all grown up, their friendship—and love for the wizarding world—hasn’t changed. As Tom Felton proves, once a Slytherin, always a Slytherin… but make it friendly.
