Marvel’s latest superhero film, Thunderbolts*, now officially titled The New Avengers, is performing well in cinemas. It has entered its second weekend with solid momentum and continues to stay strong at the North American box office. The film is currently holding the #1 spot in the domestic box office, which is a great sign for Marvel Studios.

One of the biggest highlights of the movie is Florence Pugh. Fans and critics are calling her the heart and soul of the film. She plays a key role, and it has already been confirmed that she will return in the upcoming Avengers movie titled Avengers: Doomsday. But she’s not the only one returning.

Several other characters from The New Avengers will also appear in Avengers: Doomsday. This includes Lewis Pullman, who plays Sentry—one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel comics and now part of the MCU. His introduction is already making waves, and fans are excited to see more of him in the next Avengers movie.

In fact, the post-credit scene of The New Avengers sets the stage for Doomsday. What’s interesting is that this scene wasn’t directed by Jake Schreier, who directed the movie, but by the famous Russo Brothers—the same team behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. That has definitely increased the buzz for what’s coming next.

The New Avengers is gaining popularity because of strong word of mouth and positive reactions from audiences. According to Luiz Fernando’s latest report, the movie earned $9 million on its second Friday at the box office. That’s a drop of 71.7% compared to its opening Friday, but still impressive compared to other Marvel films. It made more than Black Widow ($8.1 million), Captain America: The First Avenger ($7.9 million), Eternals ($7.8 million), and Captain America: Brave New World ($7.3 million) on their second Fridays.

So far, The New Avengers has made a total of $104.3 million in the United States. This is the movie’s first big box office milestone. The film is now aiming for a $34 million to $37 million second weekend, which will boost its total even further.

When we add the international earnings, the global box office total stands at $190.59 million. It’s expected to cross the $200 million mark by the end of this weekend. However, to be considered a major box office success, it needs to make over $450 million worldwide.

Marvel also explained the reason for the asterisk in Thunderbolts*—it signals the movie’s new title, The New Avengers. This change is part of a bigger plan to set up future stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film was released in theaters on May 2 and has already made a strong impact on fans and the box office.

Stay tuned as The New Avengers continues its run and sets the stage for the explosive arrival of Avengers: Doomsday.
