Gippy Grewal’s historical action drama Akaal: The Unconquered is nearing the ₹7 crore mark at the box office. Despite a slow and steady run, the film hasn’t shown major weekend jumps and seems to be approaching the end of its theatrical journey.
Directed by and starring Gippy Grewal, the film also features Apinderdeep Singh, Nikitin Dheer, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Mita Vashisht, and Nimrat Khaira. Set in 1840s Punjab, the story revolves around Sardar Akaal Singh and marks a first for Punjabi cinema—it was released in both Punjabi and Hindi simultaneously. The film is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
According to Sacnilk, Akaal: The Unconquered earned ₹17 lakh net on Day 13, a slight 6.25% jump from Day 12, when it brought in ₹16 lakh. Day 11 saw a slightly better collection of ₹33 lakh. So far, the film has shown only modest growth, with its highest single-day earning being ₹1.4 crore on Day 4.
As of now, the film has collected around ₹6.82 crore net in India, with a reported ₹6.83 crore including ₹1 lakh from the Hindi release. Its worldwide total stands at ₹1.11 crore.
The film has faced some controversy, with certain groups in Punjab protesting scenes that allegedly depict Sikh warriors smoking and drinking. Critically, it has received mixed reviews since its theatrical release on April 10.
Will Akaal cross the ₹10 crore milestone before wrapping up its theatrical run? Only time will tell. Stay tuned to DNA Bollywood for more box office updates.
