The much-awaited series The Royals is now streaming on Netflix from May 9, 2025. The show stars Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles, along with Zeenat Aman, Sumukhi Suresh, Kavya Trehan, Vihaan Samat, Lisa Mishra, and others.
We recently caught up with the cast of The Royals for a fun and honest conversation about the making of the show. From intense horse-riding sessions to behind-the-scenes memories, the actors shared a glimpse of what it was like to work on this grand project.
Ishaan Khatter, who plays Maharaj Aviraaj Singh Morpur, spoke about the physical challenges he faced while preparing for the role. Talking about the horse-riding and polo training, he joked, “It was glute-smashing!”
His co-star Vihaan Samat, who plays Digvijay Singh Morpur—Aviraaj’s brother—shared how much he enjoyed the training. “Honestly, it was one of my favorite parts of the show. It was the three of us training for two months. We were practicing at the Mahalakshmi Race Course, getting comfortable with the horses, understanding their movements, and learning how to control them. It reminded me of how we used to go to swimming classes as kids. You’d keep repeating the same thing, trying to get better each time. That’s exactly what we did here, but now it’s our job instead of a class.”
He continued, “Later, we went to Jaipur and trained on actual polo grounds. We were galloping and cantering at full speed. It was such an amazing experience, riding those beautiful horses. Not many people get to do that as part of their job. We felt very lucky.”
Ishaan agreed and added, “We got to learn a new skill and made some friends—some horsey friends! And all of us got to try our hand at it. It was a great bonding experience.”
Bhumi Pednekar, who plays a strong and powerful character in the series, also trained in horse-riding, even though her scenes didn’t make it into the final cut. She said, “I had just as much fun learning the skill. Even though you don’t see it on screen, it was a valuable and exciting experience for me.”
The cast spoke highly of their horse-riding coach, Mitesh Sir, and how his teaching helped them master the basics. Their commitment and training have clearly added a rich layer of authenticity to the royal world portrayed in the show.
The Royals is a drama filled with palace politics, sibling rivalry, and rich visuals. With strong performances, detailed costumes, and powerful storytelling, the show brings royal India to life in a new and engaging way.
Don’t miss out on this exciting period drama. The Royals is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
