Kollywood’s latest big-budget film Retro is making a strong impact at the box office. After a roaring opening day, the film is maintaining steady numbers on its second day, even though it’s a working day. The film has shown impressive occupancy in theatres and is trying to keep up the momentum.

Retro Day 2 Box Office Occupancy

On day 2, Retro recorded a morning show occupancy of 23.9%, which increased significantly to 44.4% by the afternoon shows. These are strong numbers considering it’s a weekday. However, when compared to the previous Kollywood blockbuster Dragon, the numbers are a bit lower. Dragon had a 44% morning show occupancy and a strong 68% occupancy by the evening on its second day.

Kanguva Sees Better Occupancy Than Suriya’s Last Film

Interestingly, Suriya’s new film Kanguva has registered much better occupancy on its second day compared to his last theatrical release. On Friday, May 2, Kanguva recorded 13.45% occupancy in the morning and 18.82% in the afternoon shows. This is a whopping 133% higher occupancy in the afternoon shows than his previous film on the same day. It’s a clear sign that Suriya’s fans are excited about his return to the big screen.

Retro Day 2 Ticket Sales on BookMyShow

From 6 AM to 5 PM on day 2, Retro sold 53.6K tickets on BookMyShow (BMS). This is lower than its opening day numbers, where it sold 133K tickets during the same time frame. The drop is expected on weekdays, but the film still holds a good position compared to many other releases.

Box Office Clash with HIT 3 and Raid 2

It’s worth noting that Kanguva is clashing with HIT 3 in Telugu and Raid 2 in Hindi at the box office. All three films opened well, with each reportedly collecting around ₹20 crore on their opening day. Despite the competition, Kanguva and Retro have managed to grab attention in the Tamil film market.

Final Thoughts

With solid numbers and strong fan support, both Retro and Kanguva are off to a good start. While Retro is trying to hold ground during the weekdays, Suriya’s Kanguva is enjoying strong occupancy and box office traction. It will be interesting to see how both films perform over the weekend.
