Sinners is on a winning streak at the box office! Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, the horror film has just wrapped up its fourth three-day weekend in theaters, holding strong at the #2 spot in the domestic box office chart. Even more impressively, the movie has now overtaken It Chapter Two to become the 5th highest-grossing horror film of all time in North America.
According to Luiz Fernando’s latest report, Sinners earned $21.1 million during its fourth weekend. This marks only a 36.6% drop compared to the previous weekend, a solid hold for a horror film. In fact, it even added 155 more theaters this weekend, increasing its reach.
The movie’s fourth weekend performance has also broken several records. Among R-rated movies, it now has the second-biggest 4th weekend ever. It beat Oppenheimer’s $18.8 million and Joker’s $19.2 million, falling behind only Deadpool & Wolverine’s $30 million. When it comes to April releases, Sinners now has the 5th biggest 4th weekend, just under A Minecraft Movie’s $22.7 million.
Let’s talk numbers. Sinners has now made $214.4 million in North America alone, making it the sixth horror film in history to cross the $200 million mark domestically. With this, it has officially surpassed It Chapter Two’s $211.5 million, pushing the Stephen King sequel out of the top 5.
To give some perspective, It Chapter Two, directed by Andy Muschietti, released in 2019 with a star-studded cast including James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Skarsgård. It had a strong opening weekend with $91.06 million, but ultimately earned $473.12 million worldwide, including $211.5 million from North America.
But Sinners is still climbing. The movie is now gunning for The Exorcist, which made $233 million domestically. If the momentum continues, it will soon become the 4th highest-grossing horror film in the U.S. of all time.
As for the future, box office analysts predict that Sinners could make between $250 million and $280 million in the U.S. alone. With an overseas total of $68.9 million, its global collection has reached $283.33 million, and it’s expected to cross the $300 million mark worldwide soon.
Released on April 18, Sinners is not just another horror film—it’s proving to be a cultural and box office phenomenon. Thanks to strong word-of-mouth, positive reviews, and a powerful cast, Ryan Coogler’s original horror story is now part of cinema history.
