Sikandar, starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, released on March 30, 2025, with high expectations, especially since it came out during the festive Eid weekend. Directed by AR Murugadoss and backed by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Salman Khan Films, the movie had a massive opening with 8000 shows across India. However, despite the grand launch, the film has struggled to maintain its momentum at the box office.

The film got off to a good start, collecting Rs 26 crore on its first Sunday and an impressive Rs 29 crore on its first Monday. These strong numbers gave hope that Sikandar would quickly cross the Rs 100 crore mark within its first weekend — a benchmark for big-budget Bollywood films. But things didn’t go as expected.

Instead of continuing with the same pace, the collections started to drop from Tuesday onwards. Throughout the week, the daily earnings dipped steadily, and by Friday, the film was collecting only Rs 3.5 crore. While the weekend did bring a small recovery with Rs 4 crore on Saturday and Rs 4.84 crore on Sunday, it wasn’t enough to change the overall trend.

By the end of its eighth day, which was a Sunday, Sikandar finally crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, earning a total of Rs 103.07 crore in India. On the following Monday, the film collected just Rs 48 lakh, indicating a significant drop in audience interest.

In terms of total collection:

  • India net collection: Rs 102.25 crore
  • Gross domestic earnings: Rs 116.5 crore
  • Global earnings: Rs 45.35 crore
  • Worldwide total: Rs 161.5 crore

However, the film’s producers have reported a total gross of Rs 187.84 crore, which includes all formats and territories.

Despite the decent earnings, Sikandar has underperformed when compared to Salman Khan’s previous Eid releases like Tiger 3 and Sultan. Trade analysts have also noted that Sikandar’s week-one numbers are quite similar to Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, but the latter had a smaller budget, making Sikandar’s performance seem weaker in comparison.

Another factor affecting its performance has been the drop in show count. From 8000 shows, the number has now gone down to 4406, reflecting a decrease in demand. The film also suffered due to piracy issues and mostly negative reviews, which led to a low overall occupancy rate of just 11.5% on Sunday.

Although Sikandar had all the ingredients for a blockbuster — a superstar lead, a festive release, and massive marketing — it hasn’t lived up to the hype. The film’s slow journey to Rs 100 crore and declining day-wise collections show that strong openings don’t always guarantee long-term success, especially when word of mouth is weak.

In summary, Sikandar opened big but has failed to hold the audience’s interest over time. The film’s journey so far highlights the importance of content and audience connection over just star power and festival timing.
