Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, also known as DDLJ, is more than just a Bollywood film—it’s a beloved love story that has touched millions of hearts since its release in 1995. Now, almost 30 years later, this legendary movie is getting a special tribute in London’s Leicester Square, one of the most famous film locations in the world.

In Spring 2025, a bronze statue of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, portraying their unforgettable pose from DDLJ, will be unveiled. This statue will become a part of the popular Scenes in the Square trail—a walking path that celebrates legendary film characters. The trail already includes world-famous names like Harry Potter, Batman, and Mary Poppins. With this addition, DDLJ becomes the first Bollywood film to be featured on this global cinematic trail.

This is a historic moment for Indian cinema, as the bronze DDLJ statue marks Bollywood’s permanent place in a world-renowned film landmark. The statue will be placed near the Odeon Cinema on the eastern terrace of Leicester Square, according to the official press release from the Financial Express.

The statue is being installed by the Heart of London Business Alliance, which has managed this trail to celebrate over 100 years of cinema in Leicester Square. This square has hosted many film premieres and has long been considered the heart of London’s movie culture.

Mark Williams, Deputy Chief Executive of the Heart of London Business Alliance, shared his excitement about this tribute. He said, “It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to add to our trail Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who are such titans of international cinema. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one of the most successful and important Bollywood films of all time, and we’re excited by the prospect of bringing to the trail the first film that actually features Leicester Square as a location. The statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and a celebration of London’s rich diversity. We’re in no doubt it will attract fans from all around the world to Leicester Square, the home of film and entertainment.”

Directed by Aditya Chopra, DDLJ changed the way love stories were told in Indian cinema. With its heartwarming romance, unforgettable music, and timeless scenes, the movie continues to be loved by fans across generations.

This statue not only celebrates the legacy of SRK and Kajol, but also recognises how Bollywood has become a part of global pop culture. Fans of DDLJ and Indian cinema can now take pride in knowing that their favourite film has earned a spot alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names.

For anyone visiting London, especially film lovers, this new statue will be a must-see attraction. It’s a proud moment for Indian cinema and a beautiful reminder of how storytelling through films can cross borders and unite hearts.
