Superstar Salman Khan’s latest film Sikandar, directed by the acclaimed AR Murugadoss, has faced a disappointing start at the box office. Despite being an action-packed big-budget entertainer, the film failed to deliver strong numbers during its opening week.

Instead of releasing on a typical Friday, Sikandar hit theaters on a Sunday, which made April 5 its first Saturday at the box office (technically the seventh day of release). Unfortunately, this day didn’t show any noticeable growth in earnings — a big concern for a movie starring someone of Salman Khan’s stature.

Sikandar Box Office Collection Day 7

On its seventh day, Sikandar managed to earn only ₹4 – ₹5 crore, according to early estimates. That brings the film’s total collection for its first week to around ₹114 – ₹115 crore. While this may seem like a decent figure, it’s far behind what fans and trade experts expect from a Salman Khan film.

In fact, Sikandar’s week one total is over ₹100 crore less than Salman’s biggest opening week — Tiger 3, which earned a massive ₹220.25 crore in its first seven days. Tiger 3, released during Diwali 2023, was also a Sunday release but performed significantly better thanks to its festive timing and stronger audience buzz.

Low Occupancy a Major Concern

Another major setback for Sikandar has been the poor theater occupancy. On its seventh day, the film saw only 7.6% occupancy, which is quite low for a mainstream commercial film. The highest occupancy was seen in Chennai at 12.33%, but even that isn’t enough to boost the film’s overall performance.

Despite having all the ingredients for a blockbuster — a superstar lead, a popular director, and high-octane action — Sikandar has failed to meet expectations in its first week.

Salman Khan’s Top 10 Highest Opening Week Films

To understand how Sikandar compares with Salman Khan’s past performances, here’s a look at his top 10 highest opening week (7-day) box office collections:

  1. Tiger 3 – ₹220.25 crore
  2. Sultan – ₹208.82 crore
  3. Tiger Zinda Hai – ₹206.04 crore
  4. Bajrangi Bhaijaan – ₹184.62 crore
  5. Bharat – ₹167.6 crore
  6. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – ₹165.45 crore
  7. Kick – ₹164.21 crore
  8. Race 3 – ₹144.5 crore
  9. Ek Tha Tiger – ₹137.15 crore
  10. Dabangg 3 – ₹126.55 crore

Sadly, Sikandar doesn’t even make it to the top 10 list, highlighting just how much the film underperformed compared to Salman’s previous hits.

Final Thoughts

The poor performance of Sikandar in its opening week has come as a shock for many in the industry. With fierce competition and evolving audience preferences, even big stars like Salman Khan are finding it tough to guarantee a box office success. All eyes will now be on whether the film can pick up some pace in the second week or continue to struggle.
