Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna’s much-hyped film “Sikandar” couldn’t live up to expectations at the box office. Despite entering the 100 crore club, the film underperformed and is now heading for its digital release on Netflix.
After a disappointing run in theatres, Salman Khan’s action-packed film Sikandar is all set to stream on Netflix. While it was one of the most anticipated releases of 2025, the movie failed to make a strong impact in cinemas. Fans and trade experts expected it to break records, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, the movie hit theatres on March 30, 2025. The film marked Murugadoss’s first collaboration with Salman Khan. Since the director had earlier delivered blockbusters like Ghajini with Aamir Khan and Holiday with Akshay Kumar, expectations were sky-high. But Sikandar couldn’t impress the audience.
Sikandar’s OTT Release Details
As per the usual 8-week OTT window for Hindi films, Sikandar was expected to premiere online by the end of May. Now, it’s been officially confirmed that the film will release on Netflix on May 25, 2025.
Netflix made the announcement on its social media platforms with a post that read,
“Suna hai bohot log Sikandar ka intezaar kar rahe the? Sikandar aa gaya hai Netflix par raj karne… Watch Sikandar, out 25 May on Netflix.”
So, for those who missed it in theatres or want to rewatch it, Sikandar will be available to stream this weekend.
Box Office Disappointment
The film had a strong start at the Indian box office, earning ₹30.06 crore net on its opening day. But things went downhill soon after. Negative reviews and poor word-of-mouth quickly spread, and the film couldn’t maintain momentum. It ended its domestic run with just ₹129.95 crore net, a figure far below expectations.
Considering the big budget and high-profile cast, this number is quite low. As a result, the movie received a “loss” verdict from trade analysts.
Globally, Sikandar earned a total of ₹211.34 crore gross, which includes ₹153.34 crore gross from India and ₹58 crore gross from international markets. Even with overseas collections, the film didn’t reach the kind of success it was expected to.
What Went Wrong?
Despite a massive promotional campaign and a popular lead pair in Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, the film didn’t connect with viewers. Many felt the story lacked freshness, and the screenplay didn’t offer anything new. Critics also pointed out that while the action sequences were grand, the emotional core of the movie felt weak.
Final Verdict
“Sikandar” may not have conquered the box office, but it now has a second chance to win over audiences on OTT. With its digital release on Netflix from May 25, fans who skipped the theatrical release can judge the film for themselves.
Whether you’re a Salman Khan fan or just curious to see what the hype was about, Sikandar is just a few clicks away.
