In a candid conversation, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan delved into his family’s interfaith background and shared insights into his professional journey.
Family Ties and Cultural Differences
Salman began by highlighting the cultural and religious diversity within his family. He noted that while his father, Salim Khan, is a Muslim, and his mother, Salma Khan, is a Hindu, their differing religions weren’t the primary concern during their courtship. Instead, Salma’s father was apprehensive about Salim’s association with the film industry. Salman recounted, “My maternal grandfather’s issue was not about religion but the fact that my father was from the film industry.”
Over time, these familial tensions eased, especially after the birth of Salman’s younger brother, Sohail Khan. The arrival of a grandchild bridged the gap between Salim Khan and his father-in-law, leading to a heartfelt realization. Salman shared, “My grandfather admitted that his biggest mistake was wasting five years due to misunderstandings.”
Salman also narrated an instance when his mother had a disagreement with his father and returned to her parental home. Her father welcomed her but firmly advised, “You are welcome to stay, but never leave your husband.” This counsel underscored the family’s emphasis on unity and resilience.
Salim Khan’s Perspective on Interfaith Marriage
Echoing Salman’s sentiments, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan has previously opened up about his interfaith marriage. He recalled that Salma’s father was initially concerned about their different religions. However, Salim assured him that religion would never be an issue between them. Despite these assurances, Salma’s father didn’t visit them for ten years post-marriage. Salim also discussed his marriage to Helen, noting that Salma was the first to accept her, highlighting the complexities of managing such relationships in real life.

Professional Endeavors and Collaborations
On the professional front, Salman addressed the much-anticipated collaboration with director Atlee. He explained that while the project was in the pipeline, unforeseen challenges led to its postponement. Salman stated, “We tried hard to make it work, but certain issues arose. I believe it was related to the film’s budget, which was exceptionally high. As a result, the project has been pushed.” He emphasized his commitment to focusing on one film at a time, ensuring quality over quantity.
However, reports suggest that the delay wasn’t due to budget constraints but rather scheduling conflicts with South Indian superstar Rajinikanth. The film, envisioned as a two-hero project with a substantial budget, faced challenges in aligning the dates of both actors, leading to its current status on the back burner.
Anticipation for ‘Sikandar’
Amidst these developments, fans are eagerly awaiting Salman’s upcoming film, ‘Sikandar,’ set to release in cinemas on March 30. The film has already garnered attention, especially after Salman’s father, Salim Khan, made a rare appearance at its trailer launch on March 23. This event became a significant talking point both online and within the industry, further amplifying the buzz surrounding the movie.
In summary, Salman Khan’s reflections offer a glimpse into the intricate tapestry of his personal and professional life, highlighting the challenges and triumphs that have shaped his journey in the film industry.
