Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s new film Bhool Chuk Maaf has finally hit the big screens, and it’s made a solid start at the box office. The sci-fi romantic comedy surprised many with a good opening day collection, even though early reviews from the audience and critics have been mixed. Bhool Chuk Maaf has been made on a mid-range budget of ₹50 crores. On its first day, the film earned an impressive ₹7.20 crores, which means it has already recovered 14% of its budget. While this may not seem huge, it’s a promising start for a film that doesn’t rely on a typical commercial formula. The movie’s unique mix of sci-fi and romance sets it apart from other recent Bollywood releases.
This project is backed by Maddock Films, the production house known for hits like Stree and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Interestingly, Maddock had earlier collaborated with Rajkummar Rao on Stree, which was made on a budget of ₹60 crores and went on to collect a whopping ₹627.50 crores worldwide. Naturally, expectations were high for this latest collaboration.
Will Maddock Films Face Another Setback in 2025?
So far, 2025 hasn’t been the best year for Maddock Films. Earlier this year, they released Sky Force starring Akshay Kumar. Unfortunately, it failed to recover its budget after releasing on January 24, 2025. That film turned out to be a disappointment for the studio.
Now, in just 119 days, Maddock Films is testing its luck again with Bhool Chuk Maaf. However, this time the stakes are higher because of the mixed reactions from viewers. While some have appreciated the chemistry between Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, others feel the storyline could have been stronger.
With the first weekend being crucial, the next few days will decide whether the film can go from a decent opening to a long-term box office success. If it fails to impress further, this could become Maddock Films’ second flop of 2025, adding pressure to the production house’s otherwise solid track record.
