Rachel Zegler’s Snow White may have failed at the box office, but it’s now becoming popular on Disney+. The live-action remake had a rough start in theaters, earning far less than expected. However, just days after it started streaming, Snow White climbed to the top of the global streaming charts. According to Flixpatrol, the movie is currently number one in the United States and has also taken the top spot in several other countries.

Snow White Struggled at the Box Office

The movie had a huge budget of around $269 million but didn’t perform well in theaters. On its opening weekend in the U.S., it made just $42 million. Things didn’t improve much after that. When the film was finally pulled from theaters, it had made only $205 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. That’s far below what Disney needed to break even, making it a big loss for the studio.

Box Office Numbers:

  • Domestic (U.S.): $87 million
  • International: $118 million
  • Worldwide Total: $205 million

This made Snow White another box office flop for Disney, adding to a list of recent high-budget disappointments.

Controversies Affected the Movie’s Release

From the start, Snow White faced backlash. Many fans were unhappy about Rachel Zegler’s casting, saying it didn’t match the original 1937 animated version. During interviews, Zegler called the original movie “dated” and criticized the Prince Charming storyline. These comments upset many longtime fans of the classic fairy tale.

Actor Peter Dinklage also added to the controversy. He criticized the film for including the story of the seven dwarfs, even while trying to appear progressive by casting a Latina actress as Snow White. “It makes no sense to me,” he said, calling the story “backward.” His comments led Disney to replace the dwarfs with CGI characters, but debates around the topic continued.

Drama Behind the Scenes

There were also reports of problems between the film’s stars. A Variety report claimed that Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, didn’t get along. After an Oscars appearance, Zegler allegedly called Gadot a “professional pageant queen,” which some saw as disrespectful.

Things got more serious when Zegler posted support for Palestine, which didn’t sit well with some due to Gadot’s Israeli background. Gadot later received death threats, and Disney had to pay for extra security. These issues only added more drama to an already troubled project.

Harsh Reviews But Strong Streaming Performance

Critics were not kind to Snow White. It received a 39% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a very low 1.8 out of 10 rating on IMDb. However, the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes was more positive at 71%, suggesting that some viewers enjoyed it or were curious enough to watch it despite the reviews.

While it didn’t shine on the big screen, Snow White is finally finding an audience at home. Thanks to Disney+, the film is getting a second chance—proving that even a flop can bounce back with the right platform.
