There was a time when fans had to wait months for their favorite movies to air on television. Now, with the rise of OTT (Over-the-Top) platforms, fans can watch their favorite stars from the comfort of their homes without much delay. Additionally, these platforms offer longer formats like web series, which were previously not possible in cinemas.
As streaming services continue to gain popularity, many are curious about the future of movie theaters. Bollywood and Hollywood star Priyanka Chopra Jonas has shared her perspective on this topic. With experience in various mediums—movies, television shows, and now OTT with Citadel—Chopra has always excelled on every platform.
Priyanka Chopra’s Views on Theaters
During an interview with the Hindustan Times, Priyanka Chopra discussed her views on the future of cinema. She believes that going to the movies is not just about watching a film but experiencing a collective emotional journey, which OTT platforms cannot replicate.
“I think it will always be special. There’s nothing quite like entering a darkened theater and watching a movie, not just with friends and family, but in a room full of strangers, all connected by the viewing experience. The big screen’s scale, sound, and immersive atmosphere make it a special experience. I don’t think the magic of movie theaters will ever fade,” Chopra said.
She also highlighted that technological advancements will enhance the cinema experience rather than harm it. “The advancements in technology ensure that the cinematic experience is only getting better. From 3D to IMAX, and now immersive audio, there has been continued innovation in the theater experience, which will keep bringing people back.” Chopra praised OTT platforms as well, saying, “I think that both the big screen and OTT are incredible to have! We live in an incredible time where we can access entertainment in every way possible, 24/7.”
Despite her appreciation for OTT platforms, Priyanka believes that theaters hold a special place in cinematic culture. While fans enjoy the convenience of OTT, traditional cinema theaters are here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.
