Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is one of the most awaited Indian mythological films in recent times. With a massive reported budget of ₹835 crore and an all-star cast, the film is already creating huge buzz. While fans are excited about the actors playing Lord Ram, Sita, and Ravan, there’s a surprising update about a major casting decision.
Priyanka Chopra Was First Choice for Surpanakha
Not many people know this, but global star Priyanka Chopra was the first choice to play the role of Surpanakha, the sister of Ravan. Surpanakha is considered a key character in the Ramayana, as her actions lead to the major events of the epic story.
According to a report by ETimes, the makers were very keen to cast Priyanka in this powerful role. However, things didn’t go as planned due to her busy international schedule. A source close to the project revealed, “Surpanakha is one of the main reasons the Ramayana happened. The makers really wanted Priyanka Chopra to play the part. But because of her packed schedule with Hollywood projects, she couldn’t take it up.”
Rakul Preet Singh Steps In As Surpanakha
After Priyanka had to say no, the team turned to actress Rakul Preet Singh. She reportedly fit the role perfectly and even did a look test for the character. While there has been no official confirmation from Rakul herself, insiders say that she brings a new and intense feel to the role of Surpanakha. Fans are now eager to see how she portrays this bold and emotional character.
