Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is known for his powerful performances in films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Badlapur, The Lunchbox, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Raat Akeli Hai. Over his career of more than 25 years, Nawazuddin has played many memorable roles that have left a lasting impression on audiences. However, one of his best performances might have been missed by many viewers.

We are talking about the 2019 romantic drama Photograph, a lesser-known movie directed by Ritesh Batra, the same filmmaker who gave us the critically acclaimed film The Lunchbox. Even though Photograph didn’t get as much attention as some of his other films, it is a quiet, heartfelt story that deserves to be seen by more people.

Photograph – Story and Cast

The Photograph movie is set in Mumbai and follows the life of Rafi, a poor street photographer played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Rafi spends his days taking photos of tourists near the Gateway of India. He lives a simple life, but things change when his grandmother pressures him to get married. To make her happy, Rafi shows her a photo of a young woman he once photographed and says she is his fiancée.

This young woman is Miloni, played by actress Sanya Malhotra. She comes from a completely different background—quiet, educated, and from a middle-class family. When Rafi’s grandmother wants to meet Miloni, he must convince her to pretend to be his girlfriend.

What begins as a small lie soon turns into a deep connection between two very different people. As they spend more time together, a special bond starts to form. The film beautifully captures their slow-growing relationship, filled with silent emotions and small moments.

The movie also stars Farrukh Jaffar, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Sachin Khedekar, Vijay Raaz, and Jim Sarbh in supporting roles. Each actor adds charm to this thoughtful romantic story.

How Critics Reacted to Photograph

Even though Photograph did not perform strongly at the box office, it received positive reviews from critics. On the popular review website Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds a Certified Fresh score of 80%.

Critics praised the film for its slow, emotional storytelling and strong performances. According to the Rotten Tomatoes critics’ consensus: “Photograph enriches the familiar arc of its love story by refreshingly refracting its characters’ budding bond through a sociocultural prism.” In simple words, the movie tells a love story in a unique way, showing how people from different worlds can connect emotionally.

Where To Watch Photograph Online

If you missed this touching film when it first released, now is the perfect time to watch it. You can stream Photograph on Amazon Prime Video. The movie is available on the platform, so you can enjoy it from the comfort of your home.

Whether you’re a fan of Nawazuddin Siddiqui or simply looking for a quiet, emotional film, Photograph is worth adding to your watchlist. It’s a gentle love story with powerful performances and beautiful moments that stay with you long after the movie ends.
