In a surprising development, actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has expressed deep disappointment with the Telugu film industry (TFI). Just weeks ahead of the release of his much-awaited movie Hari Hara Veera Mallu, Pawan shared an official letter (written in Telugu) explaining why he feels let down by the industry.
Film Industry Ignoring the Government?
Pawan criticized the top names in the Telugu film industry for not meeting Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, even after the NDA government completed one year in office. He questioned why none of the film bodies or associations paid even a courtesy visit to the CM.
This silence from the film industry has hurt Pawan, who recalled how the previous government mistreated celebrities and film personalities. He sarcastically thanked the industry for giving him a “return gift” after he had supported them during difficult times.
Allegations of Targeting His Film
Pawan’s emotional statement comes just as his upcoming film Hari Hara Veera Mallu is scheduled to release on June 12. Meanwhile, news about several theatres shutting down sparked conspiracy theories among his fans. Many suspect that his film is being unfairly targeted.
In his letter, Pawan said that although several individual producers like Dil Raju, Allu Aravind, Suresh Babu, Supriya, China Babu, Naveen Yerneni, and Ashwini Dutt met him earlier, the industry never came together with a united plan for the development of Telugu cinema.
He added, “Many producers came forward to meet the cinematography minister to ask for a hike in ticket prices. They got what they wanted. But when I asked them to come together to create a plan to grow the industry, they never showed the same interest.”
Most Theatres Are Run by Third Parties
Pawan also shared concerns about how most of the movie theatres in Andhra Pradesh are currently leased to third-party operators, and not run by the original owners. He said he checked with officials to understand the revenue system of exhibitors, the taxes they pay, and how multiplexes operate.
He also raised issues like high prices of food and drinks, poor facilities, and non-availability of drinking water in many theatres. Pawan asked authorities to monitor these issues and take necessary action.
Plans for a New Film Policy
Despite his disappointment, Pawan Kalyan made it clear that the Andhra Pradesh government cares about the future of Telugu cinema. He said he is working on a comprehensive film development policy to ensure the industry gets proper recognition and support.
The Deputy CM also announced that he would no longer hold individual meetings with film producers or actors. Instead, he will directly coordinate with the concerned departments. He concluded by saying, “I will soon speak with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu garu and introduce guidelines that will help the film industry grow in the right direction.”
Stir in the Industry
Pawan Kalyan’s letter has created a buzz across the Telugu film industry. With fans eagerly waiting for Hari Hara Veera Mallu, this controversy adds a new twist to the actor-politician’s already eventful journey.
