Nushrratt Bharuccha finally breaks her silence about being replaced in Dream Girl 2 and shares how she truly felt. In a recent chat on Nayandeep Rakshit’s talk show, the actress opened up about the emotional impact of not being cast in the sequel of a film she was originally part of.
Speaking honestly, Nushrratt said, “It hurt me even more when I wasn’t a part of my own sequel, especially when every other actor was the same—except the girl. I felt that was not cool.”
She was clearly referring to the fact that Ananya Panday replaced her as the female lead in Dream Girl 2, while the rest of the main cast, including Ayushmann Khurrana, remained unchanged.
When asked if she ever thought about confronting the makers about the casting decision, Nushrratt calmly explained that it wouldn’t have changed anything. “What am I going to say—‘Why not me?’ Okay, they’ll say, ‘We don’t want you.’ That’s the truth of it. And it ends there. Eventually, it’s a choice someone is making. I can’t question that choice,” she shared.
Nushrratt Bharuccha’s Inspiring Take on Moving On
Despite feeling hurt, Nushrratt showed strength and wisdom in the way she handled the situation. She said her fight is not with others, but within herself. “The fight I can fight is by not giving up on myself—by saying, ‘It’s okay. I’ll work with people who want to work with me, who value my presence on set, who believe that I will breathe life into their character and do justice to their stories and writing.’”
She added a powerful line in Hindi: “Deewar mein sar maar ke kya hoga? Sir hi toothega apna. Koi baat nahi, koi aur darwaza bana lu,” which means: “What’s the point of banging your head against a wall? Only your head will break. It’s okay, I’ll find another door.”
Nushrratt Previously Spoke About Dream Girl 2 Casting
This isn’t the first time Nushrratt talked about the casting change. Back in 2023, during the promotions of her movie Akeli, she shared her thoughts in an interview with ETimes. “I was part of Dream Girl 1, and I love that whole team. I terribly miss working with them. But why didn’t they cast me in Dream Girl 2? I think only they can answer.”
She continued, “Everyone has the right to make their choices and decisions. Similarly, I have the right to feel disappointed and be vocal about it. Nonetheless, I would have loved to work with the team again and definitely do miss them.”
