Neena Gupta is not just a talented actress but also a strong woman who has inspired many with her life story. She has faced many challenges, especially during her pregnancy and later as a single mother. In her autobiography Sach Kahun Toh, Neena shared some shocking and emotional moments from her life, including unusual advice she received when she was expecting her daughter, Masaba.
Back in the late 1980s, Neena was in a relationship with legendary West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards. However, he was already married and chose not to leave his wife. Neena decided to raise their daughter, Masaba, on her own. At that time, society judged her harshly for being an unmarried pregnant woman, and it affected both her personal and professional life.
In her book, Neena revealed that a close friend, Sujoy Mitra, gave her unexpected advice. He suggested she marry a gay businessman so that society would accept her situation. The plan was that she could say the baby belonged to her husband, but he would not actually take part in her or her child’s life. Neena wrote, “I laughed them off because I didn’t feel right about getting married just to avoid controversy. I knew I would have to answer very difficult questions.”
She added, “Being a public figure meant that people would always talk about us. But I told myself I would deal with it when the time came. Until then, I wore loose clothes to hide my pregnancy for as long as I could.”
Another friend, filmmaker Satish Kaushik, also offered to help her. He told her that if the baby had dark skin, she could say he was the father and they could get married. He wanted to protect her from public judgment and gossip. Neena appreciated the support but chose to stay true to herself and raise her daughter alone.
Despite the hard times, Neena Gupta stayed strong and focused on her career while taking care of Masaba. Over the years, Masaba grew up to become a successful fashion designer with her own brand, House of Masaba. She has also stepped into acting and was recently seen in Kesari 2 alongside Akshay Kumar.
Neena Gupta continues to impress with her acting skills. She was last seen in Aachari Baa, which was released on JioHotstar earlier this year. Her courage, honesty, and determination make her a role model for many.
