Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has openly criticized the Hindi film industry for lacking creativity and originality. He said that instead of coming up with fresh ideas, Bollywood is copying content from South Indian films. Nawazuddin is one of the many film personalities who have spoken out about the poor state of Hindi cinema in recent times.

In a recent interview, the Costao actor shared his thoughts about the current situation in Bollywood. He said, “Actually, insecurity has increased a lot. They feel that if one formula is working, they should keep using it again and again. And what’s even worse is that now they are making 2, 3, or even 4 sequels. This shows creative bankruptcy, just like financial bankruptcy. There’s a lot of creative poverty in the industry.”

He also strongly criticised Bollywood for constantly copying from the South. Nawazuddin said, “We have stolen ideas from the South, sometimes from here, sometimes from there. Even some cult hit films have scenes that are copied. This has become so common that people don’t even care if it’s stolen.”

The actor also spoke about filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who had earlier said he was distancing himself from Bollywood. Nawazuddin mentioned how Anurag left the industry because of its toxic and repetitive nature. For those who don’t know, Anurag Kashyap has moved out of Mumbai and has started focusing more on South Indian cinema, where he feels there is still scope for originality.

Nawazuddin is not alone in voicing his concern. Well-known director Hansal Mehta also commented on the situation in the Hindi film industry. He said, “Hindi cinema needs a reset. For those who think Bollywood is dying—take a pause. The industry isn’t finished, but it needs a big change. The main problem is not that the audience has lost interest. It’s that producers are only putting money into safe, repeated, and formula-based films.”

These strong statements show that many in the industry believe that Bollywood needs to take a new direction. Instead of copying successful formulas or other industries’ content, filmmakers must focus on originality, fresh stories, and genuine creativity.

Talking about Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s work, he was last seen in the film Costao. His upcoming films include Section 108, Noorani Chehra, Sangeen, and Raat Akeli Hai 2.

As more actors and filmmakers speak out, it’s clear that the audience and creators are both hungry for change. Whether Bollywood listens and evolves or continues down the same path remains to be seen. But if stars like Nawazuddin Siddiqui are raising their voices, the industry might finally begin to rethink its future.
