Thudarum needs just ₹17.1 crore more to overtake it. If it does, it will become the second highest-grossing Malayalam movie in history.
What makes this achievement even more special is that L2: Empuraan is already the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. If Thudarum reaches second place, it will mean that Mohanlal will be holding both the top two spots on the list of the biggest Malayalam films worldwide.
Matching Rajinikanth’s Box Office Record
This rare record of ruling the top two spots in an industry’s all-time box office list has only been achieved by one actor in India before – Rajinikanth. In the Tamil film industry, Rajinikanth holds the top two positions with:
- 0 as the highest-grossing Tamil film
- Jailer in second place
If Thudarum crosses Manjummel Boys, Mohanlal will become only the second Indian actor to have two films at the very top of his home industry’s box office list – just like Rajinikanth did in Tamil cinema.
