Bollywood actress and style icon Malaika Arora has found herself in legal trouble again. A Mumbai court has re-issued a bailable warrant against her after she failed to appear as a witness in a long-pending case related to a 2012 hotel fight involving actor Saif Ali Khan.
What Happened in 2012?
The incident took place on February 22, 2012, at the Wasabi restaurant inside the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. Saif Ali Khan was dining with his then-girlfriend (now wife) Kareena Kapoor, her sister Karisma Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Amrita Arora, and a few others.
According to reports, the group got into an argument with South African businessman Iqbal Mir Sharma, who was also at the restaurant. Sharma reportedly complained about the group’s loud behavior, which quickly turned into a shouting match and eventually escalated into a physical fight.
Sharma alleged that Saif and his friends assaulted him and his father-in-law, Raman Patel. Saif and two of his friends were arrested under IPC Section 325 (causing grievous hurt) and Section 34 (common intention). However, they were released on bail shortly after the incident.
Why Is Malaika Arora Involved?
Malaika Arora was present during the altercation and is considered a key eyewitness. Although she is not accused of any wrongdoing, her testimony is seen as crucial to understanding exactly what happened that night.
The court is currently recording witness statements. On February 15, 2025, Chief Judicial Magistrate K.S. Zanwar issued a bailable warrant against Malaika for not showing up in court. Since she missed that date too, the court has now re-issued the warrant with a bail amount of ₹5,000.
Upcoming Court Date: April 29, 2025
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 29, 2025. The court has taken a strong stance and is pushing for progress in the trial, especially as it has been delayed multiple times due to witness no-shows.
Malaika Arora Still Silent
Despite being in the headlines, Malaika Arora has not released any official statement or comment about the situation. With the legal pressure building and the court date approaching, it remains to be seen if she will appear or face stricter consequences.
Saif Ali Khan’s Side of the Story
Saif Ali Khan and his two friends have consistently denied all charges. They claim they acted in self-defense after being provoked. However, with the case dragging on for over a decade, the court now wants to move things forward without further delay.
