Jason Statham’s latest action movie, A Working Man, got off to a solid start in its first weekend at the North American box office. It opened with more than $15 million and even took the #1 spot, beating out Disney’s Snow White. However, the film saw a steep drop in its second weekend after the highly anticipated Minecraft movie hit theaters.

The Minecraft Movie, a live-action adaptation of the popular video game, debuted with an impressive $157 million in North America. This major release pulled a lot of attention away from Statham’s action-packed film, causing it to fall to #2 on the box office chart.

According to box office data by Luiz Fernando, A Working Man brought in $7.3 million over its second weekend in the U.S., which is a 53.1% drop from its opening numbers. While the decline was expected due to competition, it still performed better than some of Jason Statham’s other recent movies like Wrath of Man, which made $3.7 million in its second weekend, and Expend4bles, which earned $2.5 million. However, it still fell behind Keanu Reeves’ John Wick, which earned $8 million in its second weekend.

Compared to Statham’s earlier 2024 hit, The Beekeeper, A Working Man is underperforming. In its second weekend, The Beekeeper earned $8.6 million—more than A Working Man. So far, Statham’s new movie has earned $27.8 million at the U.S. box office and is predicted to finish its domestic run with a total of around $40–$50 million.

When looking at its performance worldwide, A Working Man has made $16.6 million overseas. That brings the total global box office earnings to $44.41 million. The film’s reported production budget is $40 million, so technically it has already recovered its costs. However, in order to be considered a true box office success, it would need to make around $100 million or more globally, especially when factoring in marketing costs.

Compared to The Beekeeper, A Working Man is still trailing behind by 58% in the U.S. market. It may not catch up, but there is still hope for the film. Since it’s an Amazon MGM production, A Working Man will eventually be available on Amazon Prime Video. The film could make up additional revenue through streaming and advertising once it lands on the platform.

The movie was released in theaters on March 28, and while it might not become a massive blockbuster, Jason Statham’s star power is definitely helping it stay in the conversation. Despite the competition from bigger movies like Minecraft, the film has shown stronger legs than some of his previous releases and could enjoy a decent theatrical run before heading to streaming.
