Bollywood actress Jacqueliene Fernandez recently shared her emotional journey of losing her mother, Kim Fernandez, during a touching interview at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Speaking at one of the most prestigious film events in the world, Jacqueliene opened up about the pain and sadness she has been experiencing since her mother’s passing.

Kim Fernandez passed away last month after suffering a stroke. Jacqueliene revealed that even though some time has passed, she is still struggling to accept the loss. “I was lucky that I could spend her final months with her,” she said with emotion. “You always feel like—‘I wish I did more.’ It really takes time to accept something like this. I still haven’t come to terms with it.”

Jacqueliene was honoured at Cannes as part of the Women in Cinema initiative, where she was celebrated for her contributions to the film industry. During the interview, she fondly remembered her mother, calling her “my biggest cheerleader—always.” She shared how her mother had always stood by her, even when she chose the unconventional path of becoming an actress.

“I came from a simple household where wanting to be an actor felt like a crazy dream,” she said. “I was even scared to tell my parents. But when I finally did at 18, they supported me completely. Especially my mom—she never doubted me.”

Jacqueliene also spoke about how the families of public figures go through a lot, even if they don’t show it. “Whatever happens to us as actors, our parents feel it too. Everything we do is out in the open, and it’s not easy. But my parents always stood by me, no matter what,” she said.

She lovingly shared a memory of her mother calling her a butterfly. “She would say I was like her butterfly—always flying around, chasing my dreams. That meant so much to me.”

Fans have shown a lot of support for Jacqueliene’s openness and bravery in speaking about her grief, especially at such a big international event. Many praised her for being honest and strong, despite going through a personal loss.

Jacqueliene, who was recently seen in Housefull 5, continues to stay busy with her acting career and her charity work. Even though the loss of her mother has left a deep impact, she said she finds strength in remembering her mother’s love and pride.

“She would want me to keep going, to keep dreaming,” Jacqueliene said, smiling softly. “That’s what I plan to do—for her and for myself.”

Her heartfelt words have touched many hearts, and fans continue to send her love and strength as she deals with this difficult time. Jacqueliene’s story is a reminder that even celebrities face painful losses, and that talking about grief can help others heal too.
