Ishaan Khatter is feeling proud and excited as his upcoming film Homebound gets ready for its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film will be shown in the Un Certain Regard section, a special category at Cannes that highlights unique and artistic films from around the world.
Homebound also stars Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa, and is one of the most talked-about Indian films heading to the festival this year. In a recent interview with Zoom, Ishaan shared his feelings about the project. Although he didn’t reveal much about the story, he spoke with emotion: “It’s still early, and Neeraj wants to keep the story under wraps. But I’m very proud of this film. It means a lot to me, and I can’t wait for audiences to see it.”
Right now, Ishaan is also getting a lot of love for his role in Netflix’s series The Royals, but he says Homebound has been the most difficult and rewarding role of his career. “I gave it everything I had,” he said. “Having the film selected for Cannes is the best thing that could have happened.”
Ishaan also praised Neeraj Ghaywan, who made his debut with the widely acclaimed film Masaan, which also went to Cannes years ago. “Neeraj is a thoughtful, sensitive, and humane filmmaker. You don’t see many directors like him anymore,” Ishaan said. “He tells stories that matter, and he does it in such a beautiful way.”
He went on to call Homebound a “deep and carefully made” film, supported by an incredible creative team. “Even if I wasn’t part of this film, I would have supported it as a fan,” he added.
Homebound is produced by a strong team that includes Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra. In a surprising and exciting twist, legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese is also involved in the project. Ishaan called this collaboration “incredible” and said, “It’s amazing to see someone like Martin Scorsese support a film like this. No one deserves this more than Neeraj.”
With the Cannes Film Festival 2025 just around the corner, all eyes are now on Homebound and how it will be received on the international stage. The film is already generating buzz for its powerful storytelling and strong performances by Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa.
