Imran Khan recently spoke about his film career, personal struggles, and the huge success of his debut film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. During a chat with Filmfare’s Editor-in-Chief Jitesh Pillaai for the show In The Ring With Filmfare, the actor shared his thoughts on being compared to Ranbir Kapoor early in his career.

Imran made his Bollywood debut in 2008 with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, a romantic comedy that quickly became a fan favorite. The film, directed by Abbas Tyrewala and produced by Aamir Khan, turned Imran into a household name overnight. However, despite the love and success, Imran revealed that he never truly saw himself as a star.

When asked about being compared to Ranbir Kapoor, Imran said that those comparisons didn’t really bother him. “Not significantly,” he replied. He explained that his reactions had more to do with his own personality than anything else. “I’ve always had a sense of myself just being on the backfoot,” he shared.

Imran talked about how his introverted nature and shy attitude kept him from being very confident in the spotlight. “I don’t have a very outgoing persona. I’m a bit more reserved, a bit more shy. And within that, there is a kind of self-effacement in how I engage with the world,” he said.

The actor admitted that he often doubted his own talent. “I don’t think I’m that great an actor. I’m just a guy who is trying. I don’t see myself as a highly accomplished person. I would instinctively look at other actors and compare myself to them,” he added.

He also praised Ranbir Kapoor, calling him a talented performer. “Ranbir is a fine actor,” Imran said. “At that time, anyone who was my peer or contemporary, I felt I didn’t measure up. I didn’t think I was as good a dancer, or as muscular, or as talented in general. Somewhere in my head, I was always playing catch-up.”

Before becoming a lead actor, Imran had appeared as a child artist in a few films starring his uncle Aamir Khan. He was seen in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, but it was Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na that truly launched his acting career.

Even though Imran stepped away from films for several years, he continues to be remembered for his charming screen presence and relatable roles. His honesty about his personal struggles and insecurities adds depth to his story and shows a more human side of stardom that often goes unnoticed in Bollywood.
