Ground Zero, starring Emraan Hashmi, Sai Tamhankar, and Zoya Hussain, hit theatres recently and has received a thumbs-up from both critics and audiences. Directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, this action thriller had the potential to perform well, especially as it arrived just days after the Pahalgam attack—an event that unintentionally boosted its relevance.
While the reviews have been positive, the film’s box office opening hasn’t quite matched the appreciation. According to early estimates, Ground Zero collected around ₹1 to ₹1.50 crores on Day 1 at the Indian box office. The film was heavily dependent on word-of-mouth publicity, and since the initial buzz was low, it’s going to take some time before it gains momentum in theatres.
Still, Ground Zero managed to outperform some other low-openers this year. It beat the opening of Superboys Of Malegaon, which earned ₹50 lakhs, and is likely to surpass Crazxy (₹1.10 crore). However, it still finds itself on the list of the lowest Bollywood openings of 2025.
Top 5 Lowest Bollywood Openings in 2025 (So Far):
- Superboys Of Malegaon – ₹50 lakhs
- Crazxy – ₹1.10 crores
- Loveyapa – ₹1.25 crores
- Ground Zero – ₹1 to ₹1.50 crores (early estimates)
- Azaad – ₹1.50 crores
Despite positive feedback, Ground Zero couldn’t make it to the top 10 opening day collections of 2025. To secure the tenth spot, it needed to earn at least ₹3.11 crores to beat Emergency. Unfortunately, it fell short by a significant margin.
Tough Competition at the Box Office
Another reason for the slow start is strong competition at the theatres. Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar, is currently the top pick for moviegoers. The film has even affected the performance of Sunny Deol’s Jaat, which was enjoying a solid second week.
If Ground Zero doesn’t see better footfall over the weekend, it risks getting lost in the crowd. Things will get even more difficult with two new releases—Raid 2 and The Bhootnii—hitting cinemas in just a few days. The next five days are crucial for Ground Zero to build momentum and make a mark at the box office.
Final Word
Ground Zero has the content and performances to impress, but it needs stronger promotion and audience turnout to become a commercial success. The weekend collections will be a make-or-break moment for this action-packed drama.
