Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda’s latest film Jaat has landed in controversy. Earlier this week, the Christian community raised objections against a scene set in a church. Now, an FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and others for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

A complaint was registered with the Jalandhar police. Besides Deol and Hooda, the FIR also names actor Viineet Kumar Singh, director Gopichand Malineni, and the film’s producers. They have been booked under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with acts that can cause religious outrage.

The scene that sparked the controversy shows Randeep Hooda’s character, who plays the villain, acting violently inside a church. In the scene, he stands under a crucifix while people are seen praying in the background. His character is shown threatening and intimidating the worshippers. Members of the Christian community have said that this scene hurt their religious feelings.

According to reports by NDTV, the complainant alleged that the makers of Jaat deliberately released the film around the holy time of Good Friday and Easter to provoke anger among Christians. They accused the filmmakers of trying to create unrest and disturb peace in the country.

In addition to filing the complaint, representatives from the Christian community also submitted a memorandum to the Joint Commissioner. They demanded that the theatrical screenings of Jaat be stopped immediately.

Despite the controversy, Jaat has received a mixed response from audiences and critics. DNAbollywood gave the movie a rating of 3 out of 5. In its review, the site praised Sunny Deol, calling him “India’s most prolific action star,” and said that he still looks impressive when performing action scenes. They noted that Deol can make even the most unrealistic stunts look believable and delivers funny lines with ease.

Randeep Hooda was also appreciated for playing a menacing villain with skill. Regina Cassandra, who plays Hooda’s wife in the film, was described as a surprise package — beautiful and dangerous at the same time.

However, the review pointed out that while the performances were strong, the screenplay and direction were not very convincing. The film was described as a “guilty pleasure,” best enjoyed by die-hard action fans or those who admire Sunny Deol’s larger-than-life screen presence. DNAbollywood summed up by saying that Jaat is a fun watch mainly for fans, offering a unique mix of action and style — a “gunpowder idli flavour,” as they put it.
