Mohanlal’s highly anticipated sequel, L2: Empuraan, has been performing well at the box office, but its collections have started to slow down. On its sixth day, the movie earned less than 10 crore for the first time, bringing its total collection to 78 crore.

L2: Empuraan Surpasses Lucifer’s Lifetime Earnings

The film, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, has already beaten the lifetime collection of its predecessor, Lucifer, which was released in 2019. Lucifer earned 65.21 crore domestically and had a worldwide collection of 127.5 crore. In just six days, L2: Empuraan has crossed that milestone and continues its strong run at the box office.

Day-Wise Collection of L2: Empuraan

The movie witnessed a significant drop in earnings on its sixth day but still maintained a steady pace compared to other releases.

  • Day 1: 21 crore
  • Day 2:10 crore
  • Day 3:25 crore
  • Day 4:65 crore
  • Day 5:15 crore
  • Day 6:85 crore
  • Total: 78 crore

On Tuesday, April 1, the film earned approximately 7.85 crore, showing a 29% drop from the previous day, which saw better numbers due to the Eid holiday.

L2: Empuraan Vs Lucifer – Budget & Profit Comparison

Despite surpassing Lucifer’s box office earnings, L2: Empuraan has a long way to go before it can match the profits of the first part.

  • Lucifer was made on a budget of 25 crore and earned 168% profit with its 21 crore lifetime collection.
  • L2: Empuraan has a much bigger budget, and for it to surpass Lucifer’s profit percentage, it needs to collect 4 crore in total. This means the film still has to earn 391.4 crore more to match its predecessor’s profitability.

Highest-Grossing Malayalam Film of 2025

As of now, L2: Empuraan is the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2025, overtaking the previous blockbuster Rekhachithram. However, surpassing Rekhachithram’s 350% profit margin seems like an impossible task for Mohanlal’s latest venture.

Final Thoughts

Although the box office numbers for L2: Empuraan have started to slow down, the film has already established itself as a massive success. It has broken Lucifer’s record and is currently the biggest Malayalam film of 2025. Whether it can sustain its momentum and achieve record-breaking profits remains to be seen.
