Divya Dutta is one of the most respected actresses in Bollywood. She has played many powerful roles in her career, but one of her most memorable performances was in the 2013 hit film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. In the movie, she played the role of Isri Kaur, the elder sister of Indian athlete Milkha Singh, who was portrayed by Farhan Akhtar. Her performance was loved by both critics and audiences.

However, not many people know that Divya Dutta almost turned down the role. The reason? She had a huge crush on Farhan Akhtar at the time!

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Divya shared this interesting story. She revealed, “I wasn’t doing it because I had a huge crush on Farhan at that time. I said, ‘Why should I play his sister?’” She admitted that it felt strange to play the role of a sister to someone she had romantic feelings for.

Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who was helming Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, was surprised by her reason. But he didn’t give up. He told her, “But you’re an actor; you’re a professional.” Divya said, “Yeah, but you know…” showing how she struggled to accept the role at first.

Despite her hesitation, the director was firm in his decision. He believed that Divya Dutta was the perfect choice for Isri Kaur. In fact, she was his “first and last choice” for the role. Eventually, Divya agreed and took on the part. And it turned out to be one of the highlights of her career.

Divya also shared another fun moment from the sets of the film. When she first arrived to shoot, she couldn’t even recognize Farhan Akhtar. He had gone through such a big transformation for the role of Milkha Singh that he looked completely different. She said he had become Milkha Singh in every way—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is based on the real-life story of Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, also known as The Flying Sikh. The film was a huge success and received many awards, including two National Film Awards. It was written by Prasoon Joshi and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The cast also included Sonam Kapoor, Pavan Malhotra, and Art Malik.

Divya Dutta’s role as Isri Kaur stood out for its emotional depth. Her scenes with Farhan Akhtar showed a strong bond between siblings and added a lot of heart to the film. Despite her initial doubts, she delivered a touching performance that earned her praise from fans and critics alike.

It’s always fun to hear behind-the-scenes stories from Bollywood stars. Divya Dutta’s honest confession adds a light-hearted touch to the story of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, reminding us that even actors face personal dilemmas when choosing roles. Luckily, she said yes—and gave us a performance to remember.
