Filmmaker AR Murugadoss recently shared insights into the challenging production of his upcoming movie, ‘Sikandar,’ starring Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The film’s shooting process was notably impacted by serious security threats against Khan, necessitating stringent safety measures that added complexity to the production.
Massive Production Scale and Crowd Management
Murugadoss highlighted the grand scale of ‘Sikandar,’ with scenes often involving massive crowds. He explained that managing such large numbers required meticulous coordination and heightened security protocols. The director noted that working with Salman Khan was a unique experience, especially given the film’s extensive scale. Coordinating scenes with 10,000 to 20,000 people on set demanded intense planning and security measures.
Enhanced Security Measures Following Threats
The production faced additional challenges due to death threats directed at Salman Khan. In response, security on set was significantly increased, leading to time-consuming procedures. Murugadoss recalled that after the threats, security protocols were intensified, with daily checks of all extra artists taking 2-3 hours. This process consumed a substantial portion of their schedule, often delaying shoots until the early morning hours. The team had to adjust to disrupted biological cycles, but eventually adapted to the routine.
Specific Security Incidents
The threats against Salman Khan were serious and specific. In October 2024, the Mumbai traffic police received an anonymous message demanding ₹2 crore from the actor, with a threat to his life if the payment was not made. The police registered a case against the unidentified person and launched an investigation. Additionally, during the Hyderabad shooting schedule, security was further tightened following a fresh threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, leading to a four-layer security cover comprising 50-70 personnel, including NSG commandos and private guards.
Impact on Filming Schedule
The enhanced security measures had a significant impact on the filming schedule. The process of checking all extra artists on set consumed a considerable amount of time daily, often delaying shoots until the early hours of the morning. The team had to adjust to disrupted biological cycles, but once they adapted, it became a routine. Despite these challenges, the set maintained a very positive energy.
Anticipation for ‘Sikandar’
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, ‘Sikandar’ is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Alongside Salman Khan, the film features Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, and Prateik Babbar Patil in pivotal roles. The high-octane action drama is slated for release on March 30, 2025.
Despite the challenges posed by security threats and the resulting logistical complexities, the dedication of the cast and crew has kept the production on track. Fans eagerly await the release of ‘Sikandar,’ anticipating a film that promises to deliver thrilling action sequences and compelling performances.
