Popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh made a grand debut at the Met Gala 2025, turning heads with his powerful and cultural look. Walking the blue carpet in New York, Diljit proudly showcased his Punjabi heritage in a stunning custom outfit by designer Prabal Gurung. His Met Gala appearance was not just a fashion moment but also a tribute to Indian royalty, especially the Maharaja of Patiala.

Diljit Wears Traditional Punjabi Look at Met Gala 2025

Diljit arrived in a traditional kurta and tehmat, paired with a turban—a strong symbol of Sikh identity. He also wore a long cape that featured Gurumukhi script, and completed the royal look with a sword. The powerful outfit blended Indian tradition with modern high fashion, fitting perfectly with this year’s Met Gala theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, which explored ideas like Black Dandyism and cultural identity.

In an interview with the New York Times, Diljit said, “It’s what I’ve been doing all this time. It’s about carrying your identity with pride, right?” His confidence and pride in his roots were evident in every part of his look.

Inspired by the Maharaja of Patiala

Diljit’s look was deeply inspired by the Maharaja of Patiala, known for his grand fashion and royal jewellery in the early 1900s. Diljit’s team even tried to make the tribute more authentic by borrowing a famous piece of jewellery – the Patiala Necklace, originally created by Cartier in 1928.

The necklace, which contains over 2,900 diamonds and originally weighed over 1,000 carats, is considered one of the most expensive jewellery pieces ever made. Back then, it cost around ₹10 crore, and today its value is estimated at ₹21,000 crore ($2.5 billion). However, the request to borrow it was denied because the necklace is now sealed in a museum.

Custom Jewellery Created for the Look

Instead of the original necklace, Diljit’s stylist Abhilasha Devnani worked with Indian jeweller Golecha to design jewellery inspired by the Maharaja’s royal collection. The custom pieces included a striking turban brooch, adding to the princely vibe of Diljit’s ensemble.

Indian Stars Shine at the Met Gala 2025

Diljit wasn’t the only Indian star at the Met Gala this year. Other celebrities who attended the 2025 event included Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Kiara Advani. Top Indian designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra, and Prabal Gurung were also present, along with Indian businesswomen Isha Ambani and Natasha Poonawala.
