Tamil superstar Dhanush is all set to portray India’s most loved scientist and former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, in a new biopic titled Kalam: The Missile Man of India. The film was officially announced at the Cannes Film Market and has already gained a lot of attention in both the film industry and among fans.
Directed by Om Raut, who is best known for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Adipurush, the movie will showcase the inspiring journey of Dr. Kalam — from his humble beginnings in Rameswaram to becoming the President of India. The film promises to highlight his contributions to India’s space and defence programs, making it a story of dreams, dedication, and national pride.
Dhanush, known for his powerful performances, shared the first look poster of the film on Instagram. The poster shows him as Dr. Kalam with a missile launch in the background — symbolizing Kalam’s key role in India’s missile and space development. In his post, Dhanush expressed his deep respect for the late President. He wrote, “I feel truly blessed and deeply humbled to be portraying the life of such an inspirational and magnanimous leader – our very own Dr APJ Abdul Kalam sir.”
Director Om Raut also shared the announcement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He wrote, “From Rameswaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the journey of a legend begins… India’s Missile Man is coming to the silver screen. Dream big. Rise higher.” His message reflects the spirit of Dr. Kalam, who inspired millions with his life and vision.
The biopic is being produced by a powerful team from the Indian film industry. Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series are joining hands with Abhishek Agarwal and Anil Sunkara from Abhishek Agarwal Arts to bring this important story to life. This collaboration marks a major moment in Indian cinema, especially as the story of Dr. Kalam will now reach a pan-India audience.
Currently, Om Raut is attending the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where the project was officially launched. Speaking about the film, Raut said it is a great honour to present the life of such an extraordinary Indian hero on a global platform like Cannes. This will be Raut’s third directorial film after Lokmanya (2015) and Adipurush (2023).
For Dhanush, this project adds another milestone to his already successful career. Fans are also eagerly waiting for his next movie Idli Kadai, which is set to release on October 1st this year.
