Dhadak 2, the much-awaited sequel to the 2018 hit film Dhadak, is finally ready for release. The film, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, has completed its censor board process and received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). However, this approval came only after a long process and many changes.

The movie, directed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures, took almost a year to get the green signal. Dhadak 2 is a remake of the 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. It tells a powerful story about caste and class discrimination in India, which led to many suggested cuts and edits by the CBFC.

16 Changes Recommended by the CBFC

According to reports, the CBFC suggested around 16 changes to the film. These included changes to dialogues, scenes, and even visual elements. One of the biggest dialogue changes involved a line that originally said, “3,000 years of backlog will not be cleared in just 70 years.” This was replaced with a softer version: “The backlog of age-old discrimination will not be cleared in just 70 years.” A similar change had also been made earlier in another movie, Phule.

Words related to caste, such as “chamar” and “bhangi”, were muted and replaced with the word “junglee.” A strong dialogue about the struggles of oppressed communities was also changed to make it less intense.

Scenes Cut or Trimmed

Several visual cuts were also made. For example:

  • A five-second scene where a character urinates on Siddhant Chaturvedi’s character Nilesh was removed.
  • A scene where Nilesh’s father is humiliated was shortened.
  • A scene showing violence against a woman was completely blacked out.

In addition, a poem titled ‘Thakur Ka Kuan’ was removed from the movie. A religious couplet (Doha) by Saint Tulsidas used in a song was replaced with another verse. Even the blue color of a dog shown in one scene was edited out.

The disclaimer shown at the start of the movie was also changed. It was extended from just 20 seconds to 1 minute and 51 seconds and must now be read aloud during movie screenings.

About the Film and Release Update

Dhadak 2 tells the story of a young man from a lower caste who falls in love while facing deep social challenges. The film is said to be Siddhant Chaturvedi’s most grounded role, as he comes from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh and relates closely to the character.

Along with Triptii and Siddhant, the film also stars Ashutosh Rana, Kharaj Mukherjee, and Aditya Kumar in key roles. The movie was originally planned for release in 2024 but got delayed due to the censor board review.

Now that the changes are made and the film has been approved, Dhadak 2 is expected to hit theatres very soon.
