Actress Dakota Johnson didn’t hold back when talking about the current state of Hollywood. During her appearance on the popular YouTube show Hot Ones, the Materialists star shared some very honest opinions while eating spicy chicken wings with host Sean Evans.

Johnson, known for her roles in films like Fifty Shades of Grey and Madame Web, said she’s frustrated with how Hollywood works today. She believes many important decisions are being made by people who don’t truly care about movies.

“Creative decisions are being made by committee—or by people who don’t even watch movies or know anything about them,” Johnson said. “That tends to be what’s occurring a lot.”

Dakota Johnson Says Hollywood Avoids New Ideas

When asked why Hollywood often avoids taking risks or trying new ideas, Johnson blamed studio executives. According to her, the people in charge are more focused on making money than telling fresh, exciting stories. That’s why we see so many remakes, sequels, and superhero films.

“When something does well, studios want to keep that going, so they remake the same things,” she explained. “But audiences want to feel something new. They want originality. So I don’t know… it’s all just a bit of a mess right now, isn’t it?”

Her words reflect what many fans and critics have been saying for years — that Hollywood has become too safe and formulaic. Johnson’s honest comments are now making headlines and getting a lot of attention online.

Reflecting on Madame Web and Her Creative Struggles

Dakota Johnson also talked briefly about Madame Web, the superhero movie she starred in that didn’t do well with critics or audiences. The film was heavily criticized and ended up winning three Razzie Awards, including Worst Picture and Worst Actress.

In an earlier interview, Johnson explained that the movie changed a lot during production. “It started out as something and turned into something else,” she said, suggesting that the original creative vision was lost.

Even though Madame Web wasn’t a success, Johnson isn’t giving up on being part of the film industry. She now puts more focus on producing her own projects through her company, TeaTime Pictures.

“It’s hard to be on some jobs where I don’t have creative input,” she told Hot Ones host Sean Evans. “I really prefer producing.”

Dakota Johnson Promotes New Movie ‘Materialists’

Right now, Johnson is promoting her new movie Materialists, which is hitting theaters. The film gives her a chance to explore more original and thoughtful work — something she feels is missing from many big Hollywood productions.

As she continues to speak openly about her experiences in the film world, Dakota Johnson is becoming a strong voice for creative freedom and originality in Hollywood. Her Hot Ones interview isn’t just about spicy wings — it’s about speaking the truth.
