Chris Evans, best known for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently shared his thoughts on not being part of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The actor, who starred in eight Marvel films, said it feels emotional not to return alongside his former co-stars.
“It’s sad to not be back with the band,” Evans said in a recent interview. “I’m sure they’re doing something incredible… but it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party.”
Evans last appeared in the MCU in Avengers: Endgame (2019), where his character Steve Rogers completed his final mission by returning the Infinity Stones to their original timelines. Instead of returning to the present, he chose to stay in the past and live a peaceful life with Peggy Carter. In the present day, an older Steve Rogers passed on his iconic shield and the Captain America title to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie.
Now, Anthony Mackie is stepping up as the new Captain America and will lead the team in Avengers: Doomsday. Speaking about the film, Mackie promised that it will bring back the magic of the earlier Marvel films. “We’re getting the band back together,” he said. “It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling.”
Fans are already excited about seeing their favorite heroes reunite on screen, but there’s even more buzz around a surprising return — Alan Cumming is back as Nightcrawler.
Cumming first played the teleporting mutant in X2: X-Men United more than 20 years ago. Now, he’s returning to the superhero world in Avengers: Doomsday, and he couldn’t be happier. “Isn’t it nuts? I’m excited and amazed. It’s been 23 years since I was a superhero,” he said.
But this won’t be just a short cameo. Cumming revealed that he’s been training for stunt scenes and teased a major action moment with Pedro Pascal, who plays Mr. Fantastic in the movie. “I was learning stunts yesterday and I just think, I’m 60 years old,” he laughed. “And then they say, ‘You’re hitting Pedro Pascal against the head,’ or something. That, to me, is hilarious.”
With big names returning and new heroes joining the team, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most exciting films yet. Even though Chris Evans won’t be back as Captain America, fans can look forward to emotional moments, thrilling action, and a strong dose of nostalgia.
As the Marvel Universe continues to grow, the legacy of its original heroes lives on through new stories and characters — and fans around the world are ready for the next chapter.
