Chhorii 2 Movie Review: A Sequel That Goes Nowhere
Available on: Prime Video
Language: Hindi
Runtime: 2 Hours 20 Minutes
Directed by: Vishal Furia
Cast: Nushrratt Bharuccha, Soha Ali Khan, Gashmeer Mahajani, Hardika Mehta
Vishal Furia’s Chhorii was a horror film that surprised audiences with its strong social message and spooky storytelling. Unfortunately, Chhorii 2 is nothing like the first one. This sequel is a confusing, slow, and sometimes disturbing attempt that fails to deliver any real horror or emotion.
The story picks up seven years after the events of the first film. Sakshi (played by Nushrratt Bharuccha) is now living peacefully in a new town with her daughter Ishaani. But the peace doesn’t last long. Ishaani suffers from a strange skin condition, and soon the two are pulled back into the same haunted village they escaped years ago.
This time, the village is even more twisted. Sakshi’s daughter is kidnapped and taken back to be sacrificed as part of an evil tradition. The village continues to worship male dominance, and girls are still seen as a curse. Soha Ali Khan plays the role of Daasi Maa, a mysterious and creepy woman preparing Ishaani for a terrifying ritual.
The plot is hard to follow and filled with random scenes that don’t make much sense. Instead of building suspense or fear, the movie adds strange visual elements and uncomfortable symbolic moments that feel forced and unnecessary. The message about gender inequality is important, but the way it’s delivered here is messy and unclear.
Performance & Direction
None of the actors really get a chance to shine. Nushrratt Bharuccha tries to carry the film but is let down by a poor script. Soha Ali Khan’s character had potential, but the role is too confusing to understand whether she’s alive, dead, or something in between.
Vishal Furia’s direction lacks the tension and storytelling that made the first Chhorii engaging. The eerie village setup returns, but this time with no real impact. Even the attempt to include a supernatural cure connected to a king and blood rituals feels absurd and hard to watch.
Final Thoughts
Chhorii 2 is a big letdown compared to its predecessor. It takes a promising idea and turns it into a confusing mess. The horror is missing, the storytelling is weak, and the message gets lost in all the chaos. What started as a strong social-horror film has now turned into an unnecessary franchise.
Star Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1.5/5)
