Fatherhood is an unforgettable journey—filled with joyful highs, tough moments, and heartwarming lessons. In this Filmfare exclusive, some of Bollywood’s most loved actors—Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Imran Khan, Suniel Shetty, and Neil Nitin Mukesh—open up about being dads, balancing parenting with work, and what their children have taught them over the years.
For Shah Rukh Khan, his children have completely changed the way he sees life. “The way I understand emotions and relationships is because of my kids. They keep me grounded and connected to the real world,” he shares. Recalling a funny moment, he says, “My son once told me that when I get angry, I turn into a monster. He says I make strange sounds that don’t match my personality!” His daughter Suhana, on the other hand, gives him life advice: “If I don’t like someone, she says I should just say it out loud.” His wife Gauri lets him be himself, but it’s his children who truly help him understand life better.
Amitabh Bachchan talks about the challenges of not being physically present all the time. “It’s tough not being part of their daily lives. But thank God for technology—phones, FaceTime, and Zoom keep us connected.” He also shares a special memory from the shooting of Sholay: “My wife Jaya was pregnant with our daughter Shweta when she filmed the scene where my character returns the keys. That scene will always hold a deep emotional meaning for me.”
Fardeen Khan shares the strong emotional connection he has with his daughter. “We have a very close and open bond. I’ve always wanted her to feel safe and know that she can talk to me about anything. Over time, we’ve grown together. Her trust in me is something I value more than anything.”
Imran Khan shares how his daughter reacts to his films. “She loves movies that are fun and full of music, like Hai Junoon! But she doesn’t like it when I get hurt in a film. Once, she saw a song where I got shot at the end, and she cried for days. She stayed in my room and wouldn’t sleep alone for 10 days.” Even now, if she sees him crying in a film, it makes her emotional. “One night, after watching Tu Ne Jo Na Kaha, she cried and told me she doesn’t want to see me sad. That’s how deeply she feels.”
Suniel Shetty wants his granddaughter Evaarah to stay connected to her roots. “These days, many kids don’t want to go back to where they come from. I’m trying to keep her interested in our traditions. Luckily, my kids—Athiya and Ahan—grew up with their grandparents, and that made them more aware. Good upbringing starts at home.”
From learning patience to becoming better listeners, these Bollywood dads prove that fatherhood is more than just a role—it’s a lifelong bond full of growth, emotion, and love. No matter how famous they are, when it comes to their children, they are just like any other father—emotional, protective, and endlessly proud.
