The Malayalam film Maranamass, starring Basil Joseph, is showing a strong performance at the box office despite being a small-budget black-comedy. The movie has been growing steadily since its release, and by the end of Day 3, it is already on its way to entering the profit zone.

Maranamass Box Office Collection Day 3

On its third day in theatres, Maranamass collected ₹1.81 crore at the Indian box office. This marks a 29% jump from its Day 2 collection, which stood at ₹1.4 crore. The film had opened with a decent ₹1 crore on Day 1. With this momentum, the total India net box office collection of Maranamass now stands at ₹4.21 crore in just three days.

Even though the exact production budget of the film hasn’t been officially confirmed, industry sources estimate that it falls somewhere between ₹5 crore and ₹8 crore. With ₹4.21 crore already earned in India, the film is clearly heading towards profitability, especially if it maintains this pace through the coming week.

A Better Start Than Basil Joseph’s Previous Hits

Maranamass has already outperformed the opening numbers of Basil Joseph’s previous hit Ponman. While Ponman had collected ₹1.46 crore in its first two days, Maranamass has raked in ₹2.4 crore in the same period. That’s a jump of nearly 64%, showing that the audience interest in Maranamass is significantly higher.

The film is now being closely watched to see if it can beat the lifetime box office collections of Basil’s earlier films. Ponman had made ₹10.15 crore in its full run, while another 2025 release of Basil Joseph, Pravinkodu Shappu, earned ₹5.96 crore.

Maranamass Faces Competition but Holds Strong

What’s more impressive is that Maranamass is doing well despite facing competition at the box office. It clashed with two other major Malayalam releases — Bazooka and Alappuzha Gymkhana — yet has managed to carve its own space and maintain steady growth. This indicates positive word-of-mouth and audience appreciation, especially for a dark comedy which usually caters to a niche crowd.

About the Film

Maranamass is directed by Sivaprasad and features an ensemble cast including Rajesh Madhavan, Siju Sunny, and Babu Antony alongside Basil Joseph. The film’s music is composed by JK, adding to its overall appeal.

With solid day-to-day growth, Maranamass has turned into a surprise box office performer. If this trend continues, the movie might not only recover its costs but could also turn into a profitable venture in the coming days.
