Actor Ali Fazal is all set to play the role of a musician again in his upcoming film Metro… In Dino, directed by the talented Anurag Basu. The film, which is the official sequel to Basu’s 2007 hit Life in a… Metro, will hit theatres on July 4, 2025. Interestingly, this new role brings Ali’s journey in Bollywood full circle, as he started his acting career in 2009 with a small but memorable role in 3 Idiots, where he played Joy Lobo, a guitar-playing engineering student.
Now, 15 years later, Ali Fazal finds himself holding a guitar on screen once again, this time as Akash, a musician living in today’s urban world. For the actor, this is more than just a coincidence—it feels like a beautiful twist of fate.
Ali shared his thoughts about this special moment in his career. He said,
“It feels like life has truly come full circle. I started my film journey with Joy Lobo, a young man who followed his dreams with a guitar in hand. That role gave me my first big break and helped me connect with the artist inside me. Now, playing Akash in Metro… In Dino feels like a continuation of that story, only more mature.”
Over the years, Ali Fazal has been a part of many different types of films—from historical dramas to international projects like Death on the Nile and Victoria & Abdul. But for him, playing a musician again brings back special memories and a sense of nostalgia.

“I’ve been lucky to explore many different characters through cinema. But there’s something deeply personal about picking up the guitar again. It takes me back to where it all started.
