In a throwback interview on Reddit, Jaya Bachchan shared how she and Aishwarya are always honest with each other. She mentioned that if she dislikes something about Aishwarya, she tells her directly instead of talking behind her back. Similarly, Aishwarya also expresses her opinions. However, Jaya emphasized that while she can be dramatic, Aishwarya needs to be more respectful when addressing her concerns. She humorously added, “I am old, you know. That’s all.”
In another old interview with fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Jaya Bachchan revealed why she cannot be strict with Aishwarya. She explained that daughters often take their parents for granted, but a daughter-in-law cannot do the same with her in-laws. She said, “Strict? She’s not my daughter! She’s my daughter-in-law. Why should I be strict with her? I’m sure her mother has done that for her. There is a difference between a daughter and a daughter-in-law, you know.”
Despite these statements, rumors of a strained relationship between Jaya and Aishwarya have continued for years. People have noticed that the two often enter events separately and do not pose together as much as they did before. This has fueled speculation that not everything is smooth between them.
