Aamir Khan has finally cleared the air about rumours of his retirement. The superstar said he has no plans to quit acting and is fully focused on his upcoming movies. Speaking to fans during a Zoom interaction, Aamir explained that his earlier comments were misunderstood and taken out of context.
“Mahabharat is not going to be my last film,” Aamir said, strongly denying the speculation. He shared that during a podcast, he was asked a hypothetical question — if he could do one film so meaningful that he wouldn’t feel the need to work again, what would it be?
“People misunderstood my answer. It was just a reflective question, not a retirement announcement,” Aamir said. “The word ‘if’ was very important in that question, but many people ignored it and thought I was saying goodbye to acting.”
Aamir explained that he spoke about Mahabharat during the podcast because it is a very special project for him. “There is only one project that has the kind of emotional and creative depth that could make me feel like I’ve done enough — and that’s Mahabharat,” he said. However, he made it clear that this does not mean he’s planning to stop acting after it.
“People need to listen carefully to the full answer,” Aamir added. “I’m not quitting. I was only trying to explain how powerful and meaningful Mahabharat is to me personally.”
For now, Aamir is busy with his upcoming movie Sitaare Zameen Par, which is set to release in theatres on June 20. The film is directed by RS Prasanna and is a remake of the popular Spanish film Campeones. It tells an emotional story and marks Aamir’s return to the big screen after a break.
After Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir will begin work on his dream project, Mahabharat. He has been planning this epic saga for many years and wants to make it with great care and attention. “It’s a once-in-a-career film,” Aamir said. “It’s full of emotions, scale, and meaning. I will start working on it after my next release.”
Aamir’s fans can now relax — he is not going anywhere. The actor is passionate about storytelling and still has many more stories to bring to the screen. His clarification has put an end to all the false news about his retirement.
