Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani are coming together once again for a very special film. This time, the powerful duo is working on a biopic based on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke, who is known as the Father of Indian Cinema. The announcement was made on Thursday, and it has already created a buzz among fans and film lovers.

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani have previously given us blockbuster films like 3 Idiots and PK. Now, they are teaming up for a project that dives into the roots of Indian filmmaking. This upcoming film will tell the story of the man who made India’s first feature film, Raja Harishchandra, back in 1913.

The movie, which is still untitled, is set to begin shooting in October 2025. Aamir Khan will start preparing for the role after finishing work on his next film, Sitaare Zameen Par. The team behind the biopic promises that it will not just be a simple history lesson. Instead, it will take viewers on an emotional and inspiring journey of a man who helped build what is now the world’s largest film industry.

According to the official statement, the story will be set during the time of India’s freedom struggle. It will highlight how Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, also known as Dadasaheb Phalke, worked hard—despite many challenges—to create an Indian film industry from nothing. His work not only entertained people but also started a cultural revolution in India.

After making Raja Harishchandra, Phalke went on to direct several other landmark films like Lanka Dahan, Shri Krishna Janma, and Kaliya Mardan. His legacy is so important that in 1969, the Government of India started the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which is the highest honor in Indian cinema for lifetime achievement.

The film’s script has been in development for four years. Director Rajkumar Hirani is working closely with his regular writing partner Abhijat Joshi, along with Hindukush Bharadwaj and Avishkar Bharadwaj, to bring the story to life. They are also getting help from Phalke’s own grandson, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, who is sharing personal memories and stories to make the film more real and authentic.

To recreate the look of early 1900s India, the filmmakers are using VFX and AI technology from studios based in Los Angeles. These tools will help bring the past to life on screen and show how Indian cinema began.

With such a strong team, a powerful story, and modern filmmaking technology, this biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke is shaping up to be one of the most important Bollywood films in recent years. It promises to not only tell the story of one man but also celebrate the birth of Indian cinema itself.
