Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee recently shared a funny and unforgettable memory from her early days in the film industry. In an interview with Filmfare, she recalled how she once ran away from the sets of her first film, Balika Badhu, while still dressed in full bridal makeup!
The actress talked about how her journey into films happened completely by surprise. “One day, our friend came running and shouted, ‘Open the door quickly, a film actress is coming to your house!’” Moushumi remembered. That “film actress” turned out to be none other than Sandhya Roy, a well-known Bengali actress and the wife of director Tarun Majumdar.
Sandhya Roy had come to offer young Moushumi a role in Balika Badhu. But convincing her family—especially her father—was not easy. Moushumi shared, “My father was very strict. He said, ‘I don’t want to take any risks. I will not sign any agreement.’” Even when Sandhya Roy offered money to make him agree, he refused.
Moushumi laughed as she added, “He told her, ‘Keep the money. You’ll need to bribe her with chocolates and dolls, not cash. But I don’t think you’ll be able to manage her!’”
Despite the hesitation, Moushumi started working on Balika Badhu. At first, everything felt magical. She was excited to see the lights, camera, and the energy on set. “Everyone was clapping, people were taking shots, and I felt like I was in seventh heaven,” she said.
But soon, reality kicked in. She realized that the film world wasn’t as fun as she had imagined. “I started missing playing with my friends. I missed all the mischief I used to do,” Moushumi admitted.
Things got so overwhelming for the young actress that she eventually ran away from the film set—still wearing her bridal costume and makeup! “I just ran away with all that makeup on,” she said, laughing. Director Tarun Majumdar used to joke later that someone could make a movie just on the behind-the-scenes chaos of Balika Badhu, especially with all the drama around Moushumi.
This funny and sweet story gives fans a rare look at how Moushumi Chatterjee’s acting journey began—not with ambition, but with hesitation and a lot of playful drama.
