Fans of The Devil Wears Prada finally have something to celebrate! After nearly 20 years of waiting, a sequel to the 2006 hit film has officially been announced. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to hit theatres on May 1, 2026, and yes—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt are all returning for the stylish follow-up.
The original movie became a cult classic, known for its sharp dialogue, high fashion, and unforgettable characters—especially Miranda Priestly, the powerful fashion editor played by Meryl Streep. Based loosely on real-life Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the film gave audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the glamorous yet ruthless world of fashion.
Bringing the original film to life wasn’t easy. Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna shared that writing the script came with some big challenges. Because of Anna Wintour’s powerful influence, many people in the fashion industry were scared to help with research. “I had enormous trouble finding anyone in the fashion world who’d talk to me,” McKenna told Entertainment Weekly. “People were afraid of Anna and Vogue. They didn’t want to be blacklisted.”
Eventually, one insider agreed to help—on the condition of remaining anonymous. That person gave McKenna some eye-opening advice: “The people in this movie are too nice.” This feedback helped shape the script into something more real, showing just how tough and fast-paced the fashion industry truly is.
The film’s director, David Frankel, also ran into problems. He had hoped to shoot scenes at glamorous fashion locations, like the Metropolitan Museum of Art or Bryant Park, but both said no. In the end, Miranda Priestly’s elegant apartment was filmed in a friend’s townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Even Meryl Streep had to fight to make Miranda what she is today. At first, she was offered a salary that she felt didn’t reflect her worth. Streep negotiated not only for a better paycheck but also for more meaningful scenes. She requested two key moments to show Miranda’s human side: the unforgettable cerulean blue monologue and the quiet hotel room scene where Miranda shows her vulnerability.
Now, with The Devil Wears Prada 2 officially on the way, fans are eagerly waiting to see where the characters go next. Will Miranda still rule the fashion world? Has Andy Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway) returned to the industry she once walked away from? And what’s Emily (played by Emily Blunt) up to after all these years?
The sequel promises to bring back the glamour, ambition, and drama that made the first movie so iconic. Get ready to return to the fierce world of fashion when The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives in May 2026.
