Hollywood star Halle Berry, who is serving as a jury member at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, recently shared an unexpected story about her red carpet look. The actress revealed that she had to change her outfit at the last minute because of new fashion rules set by the festival.
At a press conference, Halle said she originally planned to wear a glamorous dress designed by famous Indian designer Gaurav Gupta. But due to new dress code rules at Cannes, she was not allowed to wear it. “I had an amazing dress by Gupta to wear tonight, and I cannot wear it because the train’s too big,” she explained. She also said the festival now bans large trains and see-through or nude-style clothing on the red carpet.
“I had to make a pivot,” Halle said, meaning she had to quickly choose another outfit. She added, “But the nudity part, I do think, is probably also a good rule.” The new guidelines were made to improve comfort and make it easier for guests to move around.
The Cannes Film Festival has recently become stricter about what stars can wear. Organizers said they may stop people from walking the red carpet if they don’t follow the rules. Over the past few years, some celebrities wore bold and revealing outfits, which led to debates online.
There’s one change that many people are happy about—flat shoes are now officially allowed. This rule change was praised by Juliette Binoche, the president of this year’s Cannes jury. In the past, some women were even turned away from red carpet events for not wearing high heels.
Besides talking about fashion, Halle also discussed her role as Jinx in the 2002 James Bond movie, Die Another Day. When asked if she supports the idea of a female 007, Halle responded honestly: “I don’t know if 007 should be a woman… In 2025, it’s nice to say that. But I don’t really know if that’s the right thing to do.”
Fans have long hoped for a spin-off movie featuring Jinx. Halle said she was open to the idea in the past. “At the time, it could’ve happened. It probably should’ve happened. Would’ve loved for that to happen. But I think that time has passed,” she said.
Halle Berry’s candid comments and last-minute fashion change have gotten a lot of attention online. She’s quickly become one of the most talked-about jury members at Cannes 2025. Whether it’s her style choices or her thoughts on classic movie franchises, Halle continues to shine on the global stage.
