The year 2025 has been tough for the Marathi film industry, with no clear box office success in the first few months. However, that has now changed with the release of Gulkand — a comedy film that has finally brought much-needed good news. The film has turned out to be a clean success at the Indian box office, becoming the first Marathi hit of the year.
Gulkand – A Film by Maharashtrachi Hasyajatra Team
Gulkand is directed by Sachin Goswami, a well-known name in Marathi cinema. The film stars Sai Tamhankar, Prasad Oak, Sameer Choughule, Esha Dey, and Vanita Kharat, among others. What made the film special is the strong connection of its cast with the popular Marathi TV comedy show Maharashtrachi Hasyajatra. Since most of the actors are familiar faces from the show, it created early interest among the audience.
A Positive Start with Strong Word-of-Mouth
Released in theatres on May 1, 2025, Gulkand received mostly positive reviews from critics. Even the audience gave it a thumbs-up, thanks to its family-friendly content and clean comedy. The film earned ₹55 lakh on its opening day, which was a decent start. But more importantly, it held strong in the following days due to good word-of-mouth promotion.
Gulkand Box Office Collection Till Day 16
After completing two full weeks in theatres, Gulkand is still earning well. On its third Friday (day 16), the film made ₹16 lakh, which is only a small drop from ₹18 lakh earned on day 15. As per the latest box office report by Sacnilk, the film’s total Indian net collection stands at ₹4.49 crore after 16 days.
A Profitable Film on a Controlled Budget
Gulkand was made on a budget of ₹4 crore, and with ₹4.49 crore already earned, the film is officially a profitable venture. That’s a return of ₹49 lakh, which means it has made a 12.25% profit so far. As per the performance scale of trade websites like Koimoi, the film is labeled a “Plus,” which means it’s a clean success.
A Ray of Hope for Marathi Cinema in 2025
Before Gulkand, the Marathi industry saw several anticipated films fail to perform. Movies like Sangeet Manapmaan, Zapuk Zupuk, and Fussclass Dabhade couldn’t meet expectations. So, Gulkand’s success is a big relief for both filmmakers and the audience.
Now, all eyes are on how far Gulkand can go at the box office. Will it touch the ₹5 crore mark? Time will tell, but for now, it has surely brought back smiles to Marathi cinema lovers.
