Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, has been doing really well at the Indian box office. The historical courtroom drama faced strong competition from other big releases but still managed to stay at the top of the audience’s list for most of its run. Now, the makers are all set to release the film in the Telugu language to reach a wider audience in South India.
Kesari Chapter 2 to Release in Telugu on May 23
It’s common to see South Indian films doing great business in the Hindi-speaking parts of India. But now, Bollywood films are also going pan-India and winning the hearts of fans across all regions.
Actors like Akshay Kumar and R Madhavan already have a strong fan base in the South. So, the makers of Kesari Chapter 2 are making the smart move of releasing the film in Telugu next Friday, on May 23, 2025. With the film already getting great reviews and love from the Hindi audience, it is expected to do well in the South too.
Box Office Collection So Far
In just 26 days, Kesari Chapter 2 has earned around ₹88.67 crore at the Indian box office. This makes it the sixth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2025 so far.
It is now very close to beating Sunny Deol’s Jaat, which made ₹90.01 crore, and take the fifth spot. With the Telugu release adding more to its total, the film is likely to cross the ₹100 crore mark soon.
If that happens, it will be Akshay Kumar’s second film this year to enter the 100-crore club. His previous hit, Sky Force, had made ₹134.93 crore.
Story and Background of Kesari Chapter 2
Kesari Chapter 2 is inspired by real historical events. The film is based on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, where hundreds of innocent people lost their lives.
While it is not a direct sequel, the movie is considered a spiritual sequel to Kesari (2019), which also starred Akshay Kumar and was based on the Battle of Saragarhi.
This time, instead of war scenes, the film focuses on the courtroom battles that followed the tragic incident at Jallianwala Bagh. It’s an emotional and powerful story that highlights the fight for justice during British rule.
Production and Release
The movie is directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and jointly produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films.
It was released in cinemas worldwide on April 18, 2025, and has been running successfully ever since. With its upcoming Telugu release, the movie is expected to reach even more fans and add to its already impressive box office numbers.
